Winter 2012
I hope that you all had a very Merry Christmas and I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.
I am honored to be your new Region One Director. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nancy Harvey for all of her hard
work as our Director for the last four years. I am just beginning to understand what a task she took on. I hope that I can do as good a job.
Our 2011 convention in Vancouver was an eventful one. I would like to
congratulate Bob Henry and Mimi Gaffey on being the recipients of the Region
One Volunteer awards given out at the convention. We did not have a great many
resolutions this year and many of them dealt with what they call “housekeeping”
issues.
One resolution will mean a very positive change for our Youth. This reso-
lution changed the age for our youth classes to 18 and Under. This will mean that
those youth who age up early in the year, and in most cases are still Seniors in
high school, will be able to show one more time at Youth Nationals with their
peers. This must now go through the USEF convention in January to see if it will
go into effect in 2012 or 2013. Either way it will be a bonus for our Youth.
We did
view a poignant video from the Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund which
prompted countless donations to a very worthy cause. Including one from Region
One. In the spirit of being fiscally responsible, it was also agreed to have our AHA
convention in Denver from 2014 to 2016 but to still leave the opening for conven
tions in the future to be in different regions. Your delegates worked hard to rep
resent you and the Arabian horse.
Region One is busy making plans for 2012. I will try to tell you more
about this in future newsletters. This newsletter is going to be a shorter one due
to time constraints. I want to thank Malissa Tarman for agreeing to take the news
letter on for us again. We plan to have a newsletter out to you via the internet
prior to each of our four meetings this year. Our first meeting of the year is on
January 14th.
Please remember that you do not have to be a delegate to attend.
The meetings are open to all but we just ask that you make reservations.
Region One is going to have a great 2012.
I hope to see many of you at our shows, rides, and regional meetings.
