Welcome to 2013
It is hard to believe that my first year as your Region One Director has already passed. I guess that is why they say “Time flies when you are having fun”. I think that we have had a great year and we will have an even better one in 2013. A special thanks to Malissa Tarman for taking on this newsletter for us again.
Our 2012 Convention in Denver was a exceptional one, especially for Region One. Our Past Regional Director, Nancy Harvey, was elected as Vice President of the Arabian Horse Association. I want to congratulate her on her election, and I am positive she is going to do an incredible job. Debbie Price has put together a report of the resolutions your delegates addressed and Darlene Hopkins has prepared a summary of the Emergency Preparedness program held at the convention luncheon. Both are included in this newsletter. Thank you Debbie and Darlene for doing this for us.
Region One has some definite goals for 2013. On top of the list is a new Regional Directory. This will be headed by Barbara Du Bois and we are hoping to get as much advertising as we can to offset the expense. Our last directory is from 2007-2008 so we are definitely due for one. There are a lot of things we would like to do, but we need financing to do them, and so building our Regional Championship Show is another thing we are concentrating on. We are working on some things to make it more fun and encourage attendance.
This show is our only source of income and if it is successful we can expand our activities and do more to promote the Arabian breed. One thing that is going to happen there is that the Region One Youth are going to take over doing the TAIL program on the Saturday of the Region One Show. This is a great way for people from the outside to learn about the Arabian Horse. We have a new Region One Youth Director, Nicole Gibson, and I am sure she is going to do an amazing job getting some things going for our Youth members.
Finally, I would like to talk about the Region One entry in the 2013 Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. Nancy Harvey was the marshal of this group and she is going to share the experience in the newsletter. It was impressive to see our breed showcased to the entire world on New Years Day. Thank you to all of the riders and people involved in this effort.
In closing, I would like to remind you that you do not have to be a delegate to attend our Regional meetings. Everyone is invited. The meeting is held in Rancho California and the information is in the newsletter. I hope to see more of you there.
