Hello everyone, my name is Emily Barker and I am the new Youth Director for Region One! I am so appreciative that I have the opportunity to serve as the Region 1 Youth Director this year.
I am currently sixteen years old and a junior in high school. I ride with Ted Lange at Langeford Farms located in Chino Hills, California. I have been riding horses for ten years now and have been showing horses since I was nine years old. I started showing on the Open Hunter Circuit with my Half Arabian, Allures Wikid Ways+. After showing on the Open Circuit for five years, I decided to show my Half Arabian at the Sierra Empire Arabian/Half Arabian Horse Show in January of 2013.
Sierra Empire completely changed my whole perspective on Arabian horses. The Arabian /Half Arabian riders and show crowd was such a pleasure to be around and it was a fresh new feeling. Since then I fell head over heels in love with the breed and went on to show at six more Arabian horse shows throughout the year and was lucky enough to travel and compete at Youth Nationals. At Youth Nationals Iast July, I fell in love and purchased my current show horse Hidalgo WP. I also purchased my first Country English Pleasure horse, Rohara Marc My Word, at the 59th Annual Scottsdale show in February of 2014. I am very excited about how far Hidalgo and I have come over the past six months and I am looking forward to see how much Rohara Marc My Word and I will accomplish in the 2014 show season!
I will be showing on the 2014 Arabian/Half Arabian Circuit in the following classes; Showmanship, Equitation on the Flat/Medal, Equitation Over Fences, Sport Horse in Hand, Sport Horse on the Flat, Hunter Hack, Working Hunters Over Fences, Country English Pleasure, Country English Pleasure Driving, Half Arabian Halter, and Saddle Seat Equitation. I also share a passion for judging horses. In hopes of becoming a judge one day, in 2013 I was chosen to represent Region 1 on the Youth Judging Team at US Nationals and placed Ninth Overall High Individual. I do plan on continuing the Youth Judging Team in 2014.
Horses and the barn are such a big part of my life and I am so pleased that I get to express my love for horses with the youth and everyone else involved in the Arabian Horse Association. I have only been Region 1 Youth Director for a short period of time, however I created a Region One Youth Instagram account in effort to get as much information out to the Youth of Region One. The account already has 300+ followers with tons of involvement from the youth!
I also plan on raising money and hope to achieve sponsors to help the Region One Youth Judging Contest in May and for the Youth of Region One. While attending Youth Nationals last year, I saw first hand all the building materials, plants, and other items that barns used for decorations, however at the end of the show I realized how much of the material could have been reused or donated to a local charity or family in need. My goal would be to have the barns donate the wood and other materials to local charities and people in need at Youth Nationals this year. I am looking for support from all the Regional Youth Directors to help make this program a reality.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org at any time if you have questions, suggestions, concerns, or would just like to say hello. Wishing everyone the best of luck in the 2014 show season!
